Hikma House Code of Conduct

Hikma house respects and supports the fundamental right of disability support clients to continue living independently in their own homes and communities with dignity and respect, along with choice and inclusion in relation to their care needs and being free to engage an advocate and/or representative of their choice.

Hikma House is committed to ensuring that all staff, volunteers and board members act ethically, responsibly and in the best interests of the organisation. Our Code of Conduct sets out the standards by which they must comply:

  1. Treat client’s, their families and colleagues with due respect and dignity.
  2. Respect the clients personal, religious and cultural beliefs and not engage in any form of discrimination.
  3. Recognise that each recipient is an individual, with individual needs, inclusive of those with complex, or more specialised needs.
  4. Respect the recipient’s right to choose the care they want and from whom they want it, free from victimization.
  5. Act ethically, professionally and honestly and not engage in any improper or inappropriate conduct.
  6. Follow the lawful policies, procedures and guidelines brought to their attention by Hikma House.
  7. Provide care services only if capable and qualified to do so and which are safe to provide and in accordance with relevant health care legislation and appropriate OH&S standards.
  8. Immediately report any form of abuse or neglect and exploitation of a child, an elder or a person with a disability to the relevant state authority and Management.
  9. Take all reasonable steps to prevent and respond to sexual misconduct.
  10. Ensure that individual interests that conflict with the interests of the organisation are identified and managed so that they do not affect the services, activities or decisions of the organisation.
  11. Concerns regarding the health and safety of the care recipient must be reported immediately to the Manager.
  12. Exercise every precaution to preserve the privacy and confidentiality of care recipients obtained during the course of providing care services including home maintenance services.
  13. Communicate information in an open, fair, accurate and appropriate manner.
  14. Utilise resources of Hikma House in an economical manner while protecting against loss, theft, misuse, or damage.
  15. Avoid situations that may cause conflict of interest.
  16. Be committed to honesty, fairness, and providing a safe and healthy work environment for all care recipients and employees.
